[We open up and see Zelda Knite sitting in the good doctor’s room where Zelda is looking at the floor and as she has been for her past six sessions not saying a word.. but this time... literally. She looks at the carpet with her eyes closed, obviously in pain, obviously wanting to be anywhere but here at the moment, a sight that makes the Doc worry about her.]
“Zelda sweetie... what’s bothering you? You’re even more quiet than usual.”
“...”
[Zelda doesn’t say a word, she barely moves her head just enough to say “no” as she is clearly trying to hold back some tears. The doctor puts down her pen and paper pad and stands to her feet, totally disregarding the fact that she’s supposed to be Zelda’s therapist at the moment and instead walks over and puts a hand on her shoulder, trying to comfort her, but Zelda isn’t having any of it.]
“You can talk to me, what’s wrong, are you ok? What happened?”
“Leave me alone.”
[Z shoves the doctor’s hand off her shoulder and scoots her way away from the doc the best she can and swallows a big mouthful of emotions as she tries not to break down right here.]
“I don’t want to talk about it, and most of all I don’t want to talk to ‘you’ about it.”
“Are you sure sweetheart, this is obviously really bothering you. This is what I’m here for...”
“Yeah, duh. You’re here because Adam and Gib paid you to be, it’s not like you actually care. So just leave me alone, I don’t want to bond with you.”
“Is that what you think?”
[The doctor takes her seat opposite of Zelda now, knowing that Zelda isn’t in the mood for a show of compassion and instead tries to portray it from her seat by trying to encourage Zelda to talk but Zelda still refuses to acknowledge her existence. She just shakes her head as the doc continues to try and find out the root of this problem.]
“Your father and brother aren’t paying me at all. I’m doing this because I want to help you, somebody they care about more than anything else in this world. I just want to help you.”
“... *deep breath*... whatever ...”
[After taking a long breath of air to try and garner up all her courage she begins to weave her story for the good doctor.]
There is a saying amongst us video gamers.
“Get on my level.”
It’s a battle cry when we’re playing a game with some fool who doesn’t seem to grasp the concept that we’ve proven we are better than they are. It’s a way to kinda tell them that “look kid, you’re just not as good as me and I’m proving it right now.” It’s not something you say before the fight, it’s no something you say before you have proven yourself. It’s a way to rub in the fact that we’re beating the tar out of you... but we’re doing so in the hopes that eventually you’ll be good enough to fight alongside us with the same level of talent. You don’t cry out for somebody to be on your level... unless you’re wanting the fight, if you’re wanting the challenge from somebody. It’s not a demoralizing insult like “you suck newb”, it’s not a way to bring down our competition even more, it’s more of a battle cry to try and push them harder or watch them give up and go home.
So....
Heather Stripes.....
That’s what I want to see...
You earning the right to face me, earning the chance to be an equal to me.
You see, I’ve already proven that I’m in a level all alone, I’ve already shown the world that I am the top tier of talent in Women’s wrestling today. Right now, there is Zelda Knite and at a distant second is everybody else. You think you’ve earned a shot to be in that category? You think you’ve proven yourself enough to have an attempt to knock me down with the rest of the goombies chasing me? No. Sorry.
Maybe... someday?
Right now, what I’m just hoping for is that you understand that this shouldn’t even be a matc. This is your second fight in the entire company. There is no way that you’re ready for this, there is no way that you’re capable of holding your own against me and what I bring to the ring. I am the pinnacle of the Siren’s division. I am the high score, I am the legend of the business... there isn’t any room up here for Heather Stripes, there isn’t any place on my video game throne for some hair dresser who teams with Addisyn Starr... It’s just that simple.
What you don’t know is... I’m just flat out better.
I am the BEST. EVER.
and you need to get on my level.
[Zelda is standing in front of the door to Adam’s house when something from behind her grabs her attention. Zelda spins around and sees her old boyfriend, Simon Daye, standing there... looking at her, trying to say something. Zelda cocks an eyebrow in confusion, wondering what he’s doing here.]
“Simon... holy crap... you scared me.”
“Zelda. I heard about the breakup and I am really sorry about it... and I should have never let you go... I should have never put you in that position to run to him and it’s all my fault, you were the best thing to ever happen to me...”
[Zelda rolls her eyes as Simon slurs his speech and stumbles over his words... she can smell the booze on her breath from several feet away and knows what is going on here.]
“Go home Simon. You’re drunk.
“No I’m not Z, and I’m serious... I’ve missed you so much...”
[Simon against his better judgment steps forward and puts his hand in Zelda’s and looks her in the eys as she tries to convince her of his sincerity. Zelda just shakes her head in disbelief at the moment but it’s clear that she is starting to crack, remembering their budding romance.
“You mean everything to me Z, and I was an idiot to throw that away”
“Simon...”
[Zelda doesn’t have a chance to finish what she’s going to say before SImon is on her, putting his lips to her. Zelda tries to fight it at first, but gives in and the two begin to kiss passionately in front of the door.]
***SHORTLY AFTER***
[Not long later, we can see Simon and Zelda in Zelda’s room with Zelda being shoved down on her bed hard, wearing nothing but her bra and panites. She seems a bit confused as Simon jumps on top of her and begins to move his hand up and in between her legs, before violently moving his hand back and forth. Zelda grimaces as she tries to pull away.]
“Owww... Simon, what are you doing?”
“Well stop ok... lets just... *giggles* do it. Ok?”
[Simon grins devilishly as he doesn’t waste any time. The camera moves up as he puts himself in position and we can only see him from the shoulders up, but can tell that he is instantly putting some force behind his motions as the bedframe hits the wall and Zelda begins to grit her teeth. She wraps her arms around Simon’s neck and tries to talk to him.]
“Ouch.. Slow down...”
“You know you like it like this...”
[She grits her teeth even more, trying to stop thinking about it as Simon appears to be even more violent with his movements. She begins to tear up and finally lashes out, throwing herself back against the bed, and trying to shove him away with the palm of her hands, confusing him.]
“Stop! You’re hurting me! What has gotten into you?”
“What? You’re telling me you don’t enjoy this?”
“NO! It’s not fun.It. Hurts. I told you that three times.”
“Come on, with all those guys that you were with... there’s no way. You can take it.”
“Wow... you are such an idiot.”
“At least I’m not a baby. All those other times you were drilled, you can take me.”
“Get the hell out of here and leave me alone!”
“This is ridiculous, you just can’t...”
“I can do whatever I want, because you’re the one being ridiculous!”
“Yea. Real mature comeback... God I should have known that you were still being a bitch about this.”
“I said GET OUT!”
[Simon turns around and heads out the door shaking his head in disbelief, after he grabs his close. Zelda turns over and begins to cry a little as she pulls the blankets up over her shoulders. However, before we fade away we see her reach over across the bed at the night stand sitting next to her bed. She opens it up and pulls out her secret stash of pills before we fade away.]
I don’t know if you’re ready to chase this high score yet Heather.
I’ve wrestled some of the biggest names in the world. I’ve been at the top of my game for years now with nothing holding me back and you’re just entering your second ever match. You’re just starting off and are being put against the best in the world... I don’t know, but I’m pretty sure that is too much for you to handle.
I didn’t make a name for myself by taking matches like this less seriously. Just because I was going into a match where I was supposed to win didn’t mean I thought I could get away with slacking... no, I’m right where I am because I treated every little pathetic match against every little pathetic goomba just the same. Giving it my everything, giving my full attention to my opponant and never overlooking a soul. That’s why I’m here. That’s why I’m so good.
If you think you have some kind of edge because you’re a virtual unkown... you’re crazy. That’s not how I play this game, that’s not me. I have studied your ever move, I have given you all the attention in the world. You’re going to have to earn this win against the best I’ve got, your’e going to have to beat me when I’m at the top of my skills, max level. But don’t worry about it too much... because you’re not the first and you sure as heck won’t be the last. You’re not special... but I at least for fifteen minutes treat you like you are...
That’s why this is my game...
This is why I have the high score.
Why this is my legend.
“Oh my God... you poor thing. I’m sorry that, that happened to you but you should know that it was a good thing that you threw him out and didn’t let him walk over you like that. I know it hurts, but.... You need to stay strong, you don’t need to fall back into addiction.”
“See... this is why I don’t want to talk to you. I don’t want you feeling sorry for me. You have no right to feel close to me, or feel remorse. You’re just some old hag who my dad is joysticking.”
[Zelda stands up and shakes her head, she turns and looks at the door, but before she walks out on this session she stops to talk to the doctor who she isn’t looking at anymore.]
“You don’t need to worry about me, ok? You’re not my mom and you never will be.... so just let it go, I should have never told you what happened last night. So I’m just going to go.”
“Zelda, please don’t. We’re starting to make some real progress. You’re opening up and I want to help you through these problems, I don’t have to be your mom to be compassionate and worry about your well being You can tell me why it hurts Zelda, how it makes you feel. I want to help..”
“It was just that... it was just like when I was... nevermind.”
“What? Just like when you were 13? What happened then Zelda?”
“I’m done. I’ll see you later...”
[And with that Zelda doesn’t say another word as she heads out the door and out of this session early again, leaving the doc sitting there to ponder yet again.]
“Zelda sweetie... what’s bothering you? You’re even more quiet than usual.”
“...”
[Zelda doesn’t say a word, she barely moves her head just enough to say “no” as she is clearly trying to hold back some tears.
